Picture talk (看图说话) is the part of the Chinese oral (口试) many children freeze on: they know the words, but not how to string them into a full answer. Mattie & Me has 309 picture-talk practice cards for P1–P6 on 96 pictures drawn for the game (not past exam pictures). Each has a checked model answer read aloud, key points and key words.
What the school oral looks like
P1–P4: in school orals (口试), children read a passage aloud (朗读) and talk about a picture (看图说话), often followed by a short conversation (会话).
P5–P6 and the PSLE: from upper primary, and at the PSLE, the oral is reading aloud (朗读短文) and a video-based conversation (视频会话): the child watches a short video and talks with the examiners about it.
How the practice works
- Look. Your child sees one of our pictures, made for primary pupils.
- Prepare (1 minute). The key words are hidden; they can tap to reveal three of the key points.
- Record. One minute for P1–P4, two minutes for P5–P6, in the browser.
- Compare. They play back their own answer beside the model answer, read aloud in a natural teacher voice, and tick off the key words they used.

Each model answer follows the same order: when and where, who or what, what they are doing, then feelings or what happens next. Key words for this picture:
